Who's interested in opening 04+ headlights

Calling all modders ...

I found a solvent that will "eat" cured silicone. However, smallest size is 5 gallon bucket and is $325 plus $57 shipping. I'm checking if anyone is interested in buying-in for a portion (relative to how much you want) to offset the cost.

I've been experimenting with opening 04+ headlights and it's possible to manually remove the silicone (would take forever though) or a quicker way is to cut some bits off to get easier access to the silicone (but I think this would compromise the strength of the lense).

I think the best & proper way is to use this solvent. I will most likely do this without any takers anyways but I figure I'd ask. When I have my original OEM Bi-Xenon, adaptives opened, I'm going to paint or mod the amber lense similar to the euros - then sell them since I have the euros already.

So, if you always wanted to open your 04+ headlights to mod them. I'll have the stuff to make it a WHOLE lot easier.

FYI, there is something similar that you can buy at Home Depot that is supposed to dissolve cured silicone caulk - comes in a squeeze tube. Might be worth a shot before spending so much on that bucket of stuff.

Just be careful - you don't want to get a solvent that is too strong to where it might damage all the plastic.

Hey .. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to experiment with it (DAP silicone remover). If it doesn't work, I'll go to my original plan. Been reading mixed reviews with DAP. I'll confirm that the other stuff doesn't affect plastic. I know that it will eat nylon.

I think those are the pre-facelift headlights which they say can easily be opened by baking. Not so for the 04+ headlights.

Bad news. The solvent I found will affect plastic. As a matter of fact, the rep says that any other solvent/chemical would probably affect the plastic too.

So, considering all this I'm gonna drop this project for now. I'm going to re-think this some more first before deciding what to do with my old headlights.

Correct. Those people just changed the Angel Eye BULBS which does not require removing the lens. I'm actually working on another mod (DYI LED Angel Eye bulb) that will cost less than $100 but hopefully as bright as the AngelIbrights which cost $300. But that will have to wait until the LEDS come in and I can start on that project too.
