2004 Aux Input Adapter?

For the aux input, is there an adapter you have to buy to use it? I have the aux input, but all there is there is a hole and a gold plug. It is not a useable (RCA, etc) input. I was just wondering for those that have it, did the stlr supply an adapter for it, or did you have to pourchase it...If so, shame on BMW..they shouldnt advertise it, if you cant use it...

You need to buy a cable with 3.5mm mini stereo jacks on both ends...similar to this => http://cgi.ebay.com/STEREO-AUDIO-CAB...QQcmdZViewItem

The Aux input connection should look like this

The interface is a mini-RCA stereo jack

Thanks for the quick reply guys...

AARRGHHH!!! ..Can I sue for false advertising?!

I have a small "slot" in the center console of my X, and the dealer rep told me it was an auxiliary input for an mp3 player, etc!!...I didnt have a reason to check it out when I bought the car (May 05) but now that I am in the market for a mp3 player, I thought I would check it out...But there is just the hole with a gold plug in it!.

Its probably for a phone or some crap, and the "woman" just didnt know...I CANT BELIEVE THEY LIED TO ME!!! Guess Im screwed, huh?!

Last time I was at the dealer and looked at the 2005 3 series I noticed that thats where the Aux input is located. Try it you will like it. If you don't have and iPod cet anybody's portable CD player and plug it in to try it out. Of course you will need the cord to plug it in. I believe 1/8 stereo on both ends. It's not false advertising. Use to be you had to have it installed now I believe it comes standard. Here the statement from BMWusa regarding this equiptment. http://tinyurl.com/avjvr

Logic7 Audio System
Exceptional audio potential is fully reached with the available Logic7 audio system, which creates a new standard for acoustic realism in mobile sound. Unlike traditional stereo systems, Logic7 routes two-channel (stereo) sound through a seven-channel playback matrix to create 360-degree Surround Sound. The result is a thrilling recreation of the original music recording. Digital Sound Processing (DSP) and 13 upgraded speakers combine to deliver remarkable clarity and sound separation to all seating positions. And with the standard auxiliary audio input or optional 6-disc changer, the concert in the car can last for hours on end.

Notice it says Standard auxiliary audio input? There you go.

So the cord goes from the back of the stereo to the "hole" in the center console? Seems like it would be SUCH a waste of time to create just a hole in the plastic with no interface connection just to be routed through the vehicle later...

But in any case, I will take it tomorrow to be installed..Hopefully it wont cost me an arm and a leg...

I guess my biggest question is, for those of you with MY04 X's, did your car COME with this installed, or did you have to do it yourself? It wouldnt bother me too much if other MY04's came with this same configuration...

Mine MY04 X did NOT come with this installed and I'm planning on adding it. The kit itself is only like $30 something dollars and it plugs into the head unit behind the dash...not from somewhere behind the vehicle. The AUX input jack itself, as everyone has indicated, may be located anywhere your imagination takes you...your installer would just have to run the wire from the head unit. I'm not sure what the fuss is about? An AUX input of any type would be either of RCAs or a stereo mini (like the solution BMW use). In either case, it's just an interface connector that you'll need to get a cable and hook it up to your source (portable player).

I'm confused. At the start of this thread you said "I have the aux input, but all there is there is a hole and a gold plug". What is there to install? That gold plug you describe is where you plug in the iPod, portable CD player ect. Am i missing something????
