Weasel will become famous soon enough
I haven't even had this complaint at the dealer for an X5 ever, just a small number of times with E46's. It was usually caused by a sticking idle control valve and also had a DME software issue on the 3.0i in the E46 for stalling during parking maneuvers. (ie: steering wheel cut hard with no accelerator being used) I usually reprogrammed the DME and cleaned out the idle valve, which seems to have worked in most cases.

My suggestion to people who this happens to are to retain as many details as possible to the exact conditions and circumstances it happens under, as that can be the only clues to what systems may be involved when it can't be easily replicated. And if you can replicate it decently easy, have the shop foreman or a master tech ride along with you at the dealer to show them.

It is not easy to replicate. I tried to replicate the problem so many times, I gave up. It just occurs randomly. The dealer at one point wanted to take my car for a week and have a tech drive it everywhere he went. I didn't go for that though. My theory, and im no tech, but my theory is it might be that issue you said with the E46, when no accelerator is used and you steer sharply, somethin there goes wrong, and the car shuts off. Either way, somehow switching to V-power helped... so Im happy
