Check out this comparison chart. Pirelli Scorpions are the tire of choice for the "BMW Approved" winter tire package E53 (higher overall score) but the Blizzacks do score better in the WINTER category.

Most likely one's butt will not be able to tell the difference... boils down to availability, price and brand recognition.
