Winter setup for 2004 X5 3.0i

Wonder if anyone know if Bridgestone DM-Z3 winter tires are any good for 2004 X5 (size 235/65/17) ???
Or maybe someone can recommend other brands?
I don't want to spend a fortune on winter tires since I don't drive too much in winter anyway I just want to have them in case I do go somwhere .
Also what would be fairly priced rim for that SAV and these tires??

One more thing a year or so ago tirerack recommended me Bridgestone Duller as a all season tire excellent summer tire winter WATCH OUT worse tire ever.

dm z3 are very good. Michelin x-ice are better. Go to Kal Tire and ask if they can get you a Uniroyal or BF Goodrich winter set. Both these brands are owned and made by Michelin.

I just had DM-Z3's installed for the first time I have read many good reviews about them, here are some more ratings for SUV winter tires http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?DocID=299
You might have a hard time finding winter tires now, as many places are selling out & there is a shortage of winter tires due to new Quebec law.

I had the tires mounted on my OEM 18" rims & paid CAD $971 total for 235/60/18 size. Perhaps check out www.RedFlagDeals.com for any tire deals/group buys & rebate offers.

Good luck finding NEW snow tires Any Brand/Model/Size in Toronto. All dealers are sold-out. Its a supply problem... the owner of the tire shop I was last at was lamenting that business COULD HAVE BEEN a lot better if he could get tires to sell. Every 3 minutes he gets a phonecall from someone looking for winter tires.

You might be able to get tires shipped to your door c/o TireRack.Com but be warned that some tire shops may:
1) not want mount them
2) charge you an arm and a leg to mount them
and you may not be covered by manufacturers warranty for US tires in Canada.

In the US Tirerack has their approved list of shops where they ship directly for you. Check if they have for Canada.

IF you really want a set of NEW tires I see only 2 options.
1. Order them online and find a reputable tire shop who will install them. BTW I find TireRack prices to be 'reasonable'. One thing good about their site is they tell you upfront how much tax/shipping/duty and brokerage charges will be. No surprises. Mind the exchange rate though.

2. Driving 'South of the Border' and buying them there. Be prepared to pay TAX when you cross back in.

In response to your question of where I got my set (on another thread):
I bought them of a local classified ad site (Kijiji Toronto).

I got a "BMW approved" set (original 18" Style 74 rims with Pirelli Scorpion 225/55 R18) used for one season. I got them at about 1/3 the 'stealer' price. The previous owner's X5 lease was ending in a week.

There a a few more advertised but BE CAREFUL. There are some dealers 'posing' as private sellers. There's a set that was advertised for $790 last week which YESTERDAY lists for $1700! There are also folks selling OLD tires. The tire-guy I spoke with suggested that winter tires not be more than 5 years old from date of manufacture (which is stamped on the sidewall).

Do you think that i should get 18" or same as I have now 17'
Would 18" rim and tire get me better ride not so bumpy?
Now I have all season 235/65/17 Bridgestone Duller.
