Car Shaking This Morning: Check Engine Light
I am worried. 2 weeks ago I put coolant in the car. I got 100% coolant and added water to the other 50%. I have been doing this for years. I don't think this is the problem though. It was much much colder last week and the car was operating normally. I checked the top of the coolant just to make sure and it wasn't frozen. Ahh every week something is wrong with my X5. I hate it. Guess that's what happens with old cars. |

Sounds like a misfire, I think I have a similar problem.
If you have a ODB scanner, scan it for codes. |

Stick with the cold theory. Every morning during this very very cold streak (EVERY MORNING) my 04 X5 has had some little glitch - some warning message on the dash or a rough start. Every time I have turned it off, waited a few minutes and it cleared itself up. I then drove it slowly to warm it up and have had no trouble. Not a real cold cold weather car. And mine is in a garage too. Good luck.

I get a misfire code but the engine isn't really running rough anymore. I did swap in a new coil and reset the MIL (SES)

Yeah don't worry about it too much unless it does it every single day. Mine did that twice both on very cold mornings. After a few seconds it should go away. Or shut the car off and restart it again and it should be gone..

Been dealing with this for 3 winters now, except my CE light flashes. The dealer has changed plugs, intermediate levers, and just recently reprogrammed the DME (the DME "requested" it is what he told me). Dealer told me to let the car warm for a minute or two on cold days. Its only been a day. We'll see. I have a thread about this myself.

Had this happen to me several times after I filled up with some bad gasoline. The car was shaking and misfiring pretty badly... My BMW Center is only 2 miles away, so I drove it to there. On the way, the engine normalized and it worked fine... Had it checked and was told there was nothing wrong. They advised me to be careful what kind of fuel I put in...
