Center console ashtray door won't close

I have a minor issue, but annoying for sure. The ashtray door on the center console won't stay closed. If I close the door it pops open immediately after I let it go. It's been this way for a while but as I am about to sell the X5 I want to fix this. Is there a way of fixing it without removing the entire center console. Thanks for all of the help.

Had a similar issue when a paper was stuck in the back/above side.
Have something like a plastic VISA card inserted there and slide it Left/Right, to see if anything is stuck there...

i had the same as asot, i had a parking ticket fall down the gap between the door and console, couldn't see it until i got it out with a small screw driver
