Program daytime running lights

Read in the newbie FAQ sheet, you can:

"when active, your low beam (inner pair of lights) comes on...not your xenon."

Is this true for all X5s? I have a 2001 4.4. How do I program this?

Also, is there a feature where I can program my headlights to turn off when I kill the engine and open the door? I've forgotten to turn the lights off on occasion.

Thanks!

After further reading, I think that this has to be programmed by the dealer. Can anyone confirm this? Or possible share a solution where I can tweak this feature myself?

Inner high beam are used for DRL's, at reduced intensity. Dealer programming required.

I don't think MY01 has the auto-headlights, which will turn themselves off when you turn off the engine. I think the auto-headlings came in MY02+ models, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

And Coffeeman is correct on this one: the DRL (daytime running light) can only programmed by dealer (part of your Car Memory).

You are correct about the auto lights. They do switch off when you turn off the key, but '02 and up only...my '01 5er didn't have them...

I've got an 01 3.0 and the headlights do turn off when the ignition is switched to the off position. The parking lights stay on and a buzzer sounds as an indicator.

That's different then auto-headlights, which turn the lights on and off depending on whether it is daylight or nighttime.
