Snow Chains

You guys can do what you want, but BMW officially recommends snow chains only on the rear wheels and only in 17" size for non 'is models and in 18" size for the 'is models due to clearance issues (namely that you cannot mount 17" rims on the front wheels of an 'is model), etc. Keep max speed under 30mph and you won't destroy the wheel wells. However no guarantees that your wheels won't get scuffed.

The chains are here and the test-fit went well. The wheels roll with no interference with the chains mounted. I will leave it in the highest suspension position if the chains are on. Further, the chains do not touch the face of the wheel, so no scuffing is expected.

As said before, these chains are for emergenices only.

I dropped the ball by not photographing the test fit. I don't plan to ever put them on again unless its life or death. They aren't hard to install, but they are for emergenices only!

yeah i would have like to have seen them too since i am moving to SF and thinking about frequent winter ski trips with my 20's and bumpin around incline village with em.

There is a guy with an X5 who mounted a different kind of chain on his 20" rims apparently with great results. Let me look for the thread...

Yeah that's what they run. BMW snow chains ain't cheap either. He found them used which I'm sure can be done again if you keep trying!

i would rock the spiders since they are affective and super easy to put on even tho they are but fugly but no way i will pay that much for them. 90 for z chains that people are saying don't scratch the 20's and give good traction seems like a better choice to me.
