Problem... PLEASE help

Hey guys,

I just got my 2003 BMW X5 a month ago... LOVIN it... you really feel the car when you drive.. But today i noticed a problem, Im driving on the highway at 120 and some asshole was in front on me that didn't move soo i got mad, pushed the gas and instead of the thing booting i got a message on my dash board "Trans. failsafe prog" then the car felt like the cylynders in the engine just died.. Didn't have any power, bairly moved... I pulled over, turned the car off and then back on and it started to work normally... Anyone please help!

Trans fail safe...thats not a good sign.. Your tranny is about to go south. I'd get it checked out immediately. That trans failsafe light will more then likely return and come back in a few days or weeks.

Not totally true. I've had that warning a few times over the last 140,000 miles that I've had my E53 and there is no sign that the tranny is going south. Often it is just a software glitch that clears when the vehicle is turned off and back on.

That said, it is a good idea to have things checked out by a qualified mechanic to be sure there isn't really something wrong.

More likely than not, you put it into limp mode. Not really any harm, computer just doing what it thinks it needs to do to keep things from breaking. Shut-off and restart usually cures it.
