Question Trunk actuator stuck?

Just this morning I tried to open the upper boot hatch on my 2001 x5 3.0i and the button seems to be stuck in. The little rubber cover looks depressed, and there is no movement.

Anyone run into this before? Can I safely pry off the rubber cover and try to free up the switch?

Some of us have had a problem with this part but at least in a couple of cases the switch wasn't stuck. It was broken and had to be replaced. I don't know if that's the case with yours but wanted you to be aware that the problem existed.

Mine did the same thing. I just removed the rubber and reseated it with no issues. I actually had my vehicle for about 5 months before I realized this. I had always used the key.
