radio/changer won't turn on

something wierd cropped up on our x5 last weekend. i was going to have the dealer look at it but i find that radio is not covered under the CPO so I figured I'd try to look at it myself. It's a 2005 3.0 with Nav. The Nav functions (except no voice commands) and all the menus work. However, the radio buttons on the left of the unit do nothing (the radio on light is off) and no voice commands or bluetooth audio. So far I've checked the fuses (7 in glovebox and 73, 75 in the rear), they all check out fine (continuity test on my fluke dmm). Any other ideas? I haven't looked at the schematics yet and have no bentley for the e53 (i guess i should buy one).

tia.
