Both work very well.. The oiled one can be cleaned and re- oiled for future use whereas the dry one needs to be replaced. It's your choice, both work perfectly fine in our X5s.

I think it's not an easy answer. I'm sure the two kinds work very well. I heard of oiled ones damaging HFM's, but is it a myth?

|
Failure of a MAF sensor is a myth. A MAF sensor is only likely to fail if some was to overoil their filter after cleaning. Out of the box, K&N, aFe, and other pre-oiled filters come with the correct amount of oil. User error causes the MAF to fail.
