Auxilary Heater 3.0D Sport

Hi,

I know this thread has been up before and I have searched the forum, however I can't find an answer to my problem so if anyone can help I'd be grateful.

The Aux Heater on my 3.0D has stopped coming on on cold days. When I first got the car the heater would come on on cold mornings, ticking away quietly with a bit of exhaust escaping from under the car and warming things up nicely.

This winter, despite the cold weather the heater is not coming on at all. (I don't have the remote) Are there any tests that I can do to work out what the problem is?

From my searches I have established that it could be low voltage, not enough fuel in the tank (it's not that!), a damaged board (??) or a failed heater. Does anyone know how to test what the problem is so I can workout what to do?

Thanks - Oscar

Hi,
Just had exactly this with my 2005 3.0d. Problem was the auxiliary water pump which was replaced under warranty. When it fails the aux heater will not fire up and the car takes an age to warm up. Also the fuel consumption deteriorated greatly.
Cheers.

I had the software enabled so I now have the control interface visible on the Nav screen, but I have never got the heater to work - maybe my aux water pump is faulty. Where is it? Any easy way to test it?

Hi,

I believe it is located to the right of the rad, looking from the front, half way down, round with hoses attatched. I have no idea how to test it as mine was replaced by the garage, but you can hear/feel it running on after engine switchoff for a minute or so.

The webasto heater on 3.0d only fires at certain temps, think its 6C and under. Unless you have the remote start. The pump is located next to radiator on the right looking from front.

It's not got up to 6 deg for several days now, so a good time to be testing - apart from not really wanting to be outside though.

I'll take a look for the pump. Presumably it is electrically powered with some sort of feedback to say whether it is actually working?

Anyone know where I could download a full workshop manual? I do hate not having that sort of information to hand.

Yup mine hasn't packed in but no idea if it works, am in sunny cyprus and the temp hasn't dropped below 5c here yet! anyway try this pdf link

www.q-m-s.eu/downloads/Thermo%20Top%20E.C%20Workshop%20Manual.pdf

Also go to www.realoem.com and you can see more specifics there too if you punch in your car details.

cheers, hope it goes well, keep us posted

Thaanks for all the replies. I tested mine again the other day when it was below 5 degrees. It didn't seem to be working so I gave the heater a good thump! Whiring started, cold air blows from heater exhaust punp starts clicking and shortly after the exhaust starts to heat up. So all working now and has been ok since. If you have the remote, the manual says to run the heater at least once a month. Can't do this with out remote so maybe the mechanism just clogs up and a good wallop freed it up! (Of course the other possibility is that it was working anyway and it just hadn't been cold enough, or the battery not charged enough or the fuel tank was on reserve.)

Still many thanks!

Now I need to fix those slow to retract seat belts!

Cheers!
