Thumbs up Latest mod on the X5....

Thanks to others on the board....someone had posted a picture from realeom.com for parts for the X5 rear bumper trim panel.

After the 2004 facelift, I noticed that the 4.4i and the 4.8is has a "ring" around the outlet where the exhaust tips comes out in the rear trim.

The rear bumper/trim is essentially unchanged from the 2000-2003 X5.

Being that I have a 2001 X5, I thought I do a minor mod and update the rear exhaust outlets.

There are two "heat protection" rights--left and right.

See part #15 in this diagram in this link: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&fg=15&hl=26

HEAT PROTECTION LEFT 1 51127010123 $7.98
HEAT PROTECTION RIGHT 1 51127010124 $7.98

They are about $8 each and they just snap right in....
Make sure you get a "lefty" and a "righty" because they are NOT interchangeable.

So anyone who has an older X5 with either an aftermarket exhaust like the Remus, Eisenmann, Dinan or and older 4.4i/4.6iS, you can add this to complete the trim (looks unfinished without the "heat protection rings").

Charles,

It sounds like you have the 2004+ facelift and the 4.8is body kit. Can you post some pics? I'm thinking of changing to a TS 4.8is and am having trouble finding good pics. Thanks!

Talking

Actually, I have a 2001 X5 3.0i with a 4.6iS kit, 19" Y-spoke wheels, 4.6is Exhaust, aluminum running boards. Angel eyes via Mobile Innovations.

These are most recent pics from last year's freak snow storm (1.5 feet)....Though we do live about 4000 ft above sea level. Then you guys were getting dumped on the whole winter!!

BTW, I don't have snow tires....they are high-performance all-season Pirelli Scorpion Zero asimmetrico (see Tire Rack's review---good for light snow).
The michelin diamaris were crap in the snow.

Yes!! The X5 actually does pretty well in the snow. I have the old school AWD system (62% power to the rear and 38% to the front).

Just drove the car and it went. The BMW DSC system helped out, but I believe the Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico do well in the light snow. Look at Tire Rack.com's user reviews. I had 1.5' fresh snow to drive through.

Now, if I did live in an area of frequent snowstorms, I would recommend 18" or 17" wheels with snow tires for the X5.

For areas for occasional light snow, then these tires are great compromise.
