Smile New member..question for RPM

I just got a 2002 X5 3.0i 2 days ago. On the highway I got 2400~2500 RPM @ 70 MPH and 2100 RPM @ 60 MPH, is that normal? I thought it should be lower than that,Thanks for any comment.

it has 5 gears, that the reason why the RPM's are a bit higher.

RPM

Thanks for the reply. I know RPM at the 5th gear will be higher. Just want to confirm on the high way RPM will be 2500 @ 70 MPH, because one day the review tells me it would be 2300 RPM @ 70 MPH. Can someone tell me what you got at 70 MPH. Thanks.

Just keep in mind there are factors that affect your RPMs compared to others - big one would be rolling diameter of your tires compared to others. I wouldn't think 200-300 RPM difference is something to worry about.

Also, Gary92 is saying that the older models have a 5 spd tranny vs. 6 spd. So, the older cars may run at a higher RPM at a given speed.

Here is a pic of some serious azz rpms at highway speeds...
our '01 has a 5 speed manual and the rpms are really up there.
A pic of our Vette, for comparison; it's loafing at 80.
