Question The side mirrors on my 2004 X5 4.4 don't stay folded in when I press the button

I recently purchased a 2004 X5. When I press the button to fold in the mirrors, they fold in for a few seconds then return to their original position...is this normal? I also own a 2007 328xi. When I press the mirrror button the mirrors stay folded in until I press the button again.

Definately a common problem and a pain. My previous 4.6 had power folding mirrors and eventually they gave up and started wobbling and going floppy. I had them replaced under warranty but about a year later they started doing the same thing. My cousin has folding mirrors also on his X5 and he also had them replaced but again the problem has come back and he hopes BMW will replace under good will as the mirrors are very expensive.

I have to say I'm on my second 4.6is now, and all be it that its a later built car and has more options, this one doesnt have the power folding mirrors to which I'm happy about anyway, as the mirrors become a real pain when they start to go floppy and move about freely when driving.

I had the same problem on my 2005 4.4i and I was scheduled to take it in under warranty but the mirrors started working after I left them alone for a week.
