hey,

1 .how often do you guys replace the air filter?

2. where do you purchase the filter?

happens with inspection II (about 60K miles). i don't buy the oem ones after they are done. i get K&N or other, either to fit stock box or CAI. $44 or $250 respectively.

Really depends on how much you drive and the "air quality" in which you drive. Lots of inner city or towing/dirty air travel, I'd replace it every 15,000 miles. If you are standard driving city/highway nothing very "dirty" then 60K is fine. Take a look at the filter and make your call.

FYI, K&N's are useless and offer no power gain and actually can foul sensors on the motor with K&N oil. Stick with MANN/OEM.

Useless? let's be a bit more fair with the advice and let people make their own decisions. Unless of course you have the data to back up the claims.

We ran our CAI on the 323 for 50K without issue (cleaned at 30K). I also run them on the motorcycles too. While I have not done a before/after dyno, the throttle responsiveness is definitely there.

Of course, air quality must be taken into consideration, but if you see an X5 off road for more than a few minutes, take a picture, no one will believe you.

Want data, search this site. This is NOT a new topic...IMO K&N = useless (CAI withstanding possibly). Of course, you can feel free to believe the stats on the box. But until dyno'd on the same vehicle...I'd pass. Or spend $40 bucks less, and get the MANN Filter

Don't rely on the manufacturer info. Reasearch INDEPENDENT studies and it all shows the one thing they are all shown to do is increase particulate size and density into the motor.

When the engine CFM is calculated vs OEM filter, they flow more than enough air, even when dirty.

I would be surprised if just changing to a K&N filter did anything to boost HP. If that is the goal, CAI is the way to go on the induction side.

The stories about oil fouling the MAS are true - it comes from using too much oil spray.

I use K&N on a street rod with a carb set up - I read the directions carefully (don't usually RTFM first) and they were pretty clear about not spraying too much oil. I didn't have to worry about a MAS but didn't want to dirty up my carb either.

Just my 2 cents.

I've used K&N filters in a couple of my cars and I somewhat like them but prefer a CAI instead. Gains with just the filter are fairly minimal, you do notice a slight gain in throttle response however. There have been issues with oil screwing up the MAF which is usually caused from over oiling when users clean and re-oil the filter. Just gotta follow the instructions and only use K&N's kit and you should be ok
