Moon roof shade

The shade for my moon roof (not the glass, the shade) is suddenly inoperable (stuck open) on my 4.8is. My dealer tells me that the reapair is a $4k job with labor , and is NOT covered by my BMW CPO warranty because the moon roof is considered "trim" (not my definition of trim!) and therefore not covered. Does this sound correct??? My X is an '04, so there's no wat I can justify putting in $4k for a moon roof shade.

Does anyone have a dealer in the NY area that might find a way to cover this under my CPO? Any ideas other than just live with it? Thanks.

My sunroof stop working too. I had a few more probs than u though. Life quality Bmw in bay ridge is where I go. I never made it in because I found a thread on this site that tells you how to reset or reboot the sunroof. Have you tried this?? It's simple with the shade open, press and hold the sunroof button up for 75 seconds. It will go up then open then close again and your done. Search the forums. Use the keyword panoramic sunroof problems. It will come right up. Hope this helps.

EDIT: oops, beat to the punch.

Not sure if this will help at all but I think there's a way to re-set/re-initialize the sunroof. Do a search, and again not sure, but I think its something like holding the sunroof button up for a length of time. I can't remember if you need to disconnect the battery for a period or not.

Sorry to hear about it and Good luck hetting it resolved!

Try an independant BMW garage. I'd be willing to be it will be far, far less than the $4K the stealer is quoting you.

Heck they could probably rip an entire sunroof and headliner out of a salvage unit and install it for less than 4K!

Try the reset, if it's still not working then...

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
If its just a simple reset or reboot, your dealer should have known that and not have quoted you 4k. Looks like theres something more into it or they're rippin' you off. Beware

If all else fails maybe you could have it tinted so that on hot sunny days it doesn't warm up the car too much, or let too much direct sunlight shine in your eyes? (not the ideal solution of course...but inexpensive compared to 4k if nothing else will work... (?)

Maybe talk to the service manager about the goodwill program.
