Cleaning the Engine Bay

Thanks for all the great information on Oil Seperator Failures - yes I am a new victim.

What's the best way to clean the spewed oil in the engine bay?

i'm no expert in this matter but you could try this cleaner most auto stores sell for cleaning oil spots off driveways. supposedly it breaks down the oil so it's easier to wash off.

I use Simple Green and a garden hose. During the winter time, I hook the hose up to the hot water heater, crank it all the way up to hot, and go to town.

Never had any problems.

I have used Simple Green and a garden hose for years on all my cars, trucks and tractors and have never had a problem. I avoid spraying water directly into the alternators and avoid the air intakes. I use an air hose to blow off the water from all the little places the water collects and doesn't drain off. I usually blow the excess water out of the alternators before I start the engine.

I have never had an electrical problem and my engines all look cleaner than the day they left the show room...highly detailed.

Here's a tip that will blow you away: Get some Formula 2000, now called F21 Super Protectantby Turtle Wax at Pep Boys, Kragen, Autozone, etc., spray it on everything and let it sit for a few minutes then wipe as much as you can off. Your hoses and plastic pieces will look better than they did when you bought the car and your friends will marvel at how clean your engine is. The F21 works great on the tires...best I have found, use it on my show cars with great sucess. Remember to wipe off the excess or the F21 will collect dust.
