Steering Wheel question

hi guys i own a 2004 bmw x5 4.4 and today i did an oil change and got my steering wheel cover replaced (old one was scratched up) after i left the mechanic my steering wheel when going straight has to tilt to the right...and if i move it back to the straight position the car moves to the left slightly. how do i get the steering wheel back to normal ?

what do you guys think the problem is? do i need an allignment? or CV Boots/Joints?

thanks...i have another question

my mechanic says my front Left CV needs to be replaced. are there any signs i should know to confirm this? or should i just believe him and go right ahead and change it lol

you can check for CV boots.for crack or ripped
do you see any greese that sticking to your inner wheel?

Since a mechanis replaced the steering wheel cover, you might inquire if he removed the steering whhel. If he did he may have lined up the splines wrong when he remounted it, which would make it sit crooked. If you remove the airbag (search) the steering wheel can be adjusted by removing the 16mm bolt.

i think this is it. i called the alligement shop today and they said my mechanic probably didnt put the steering wheel back straight.damn him!

is it easy to DIY?

Can you check and see if they installed the wheel straight? There is a line that serves as a guide so the wheel will be straight when you install it.

check out the home page articles for streering wheel remove and installed (and make sure to line up the splines and the "alignment marks'')

I experience the exact thing as ngugen last week. The dealer replaced the steering wheel cover on my 05 X5 4.4 due to paint chipping. As soon as I drove off the dealership, I noticed the steering wheel is about 5 degrees crooked (to the left). I drove right back to complain but the SA said the alignment is off...which doesn't make sense because it was straight when I dropped it off the day before. Does anyone know if the process of replacing the steering wheel cover would tweak the angle of the steering wheel?
