Speaker Issue

On the way in today, my left rear speaker decides to start making extremely loud static noises, even with the radio shut off. It was intermittent, and sometimes the radio would actually play through it. It didn't seem blown, because it would actually work sometimes.

When it first happened, I thought someone ran into me, it was so loud.

So, is this a check to make sure wires are tight, or a time-to-replace the speaker thing?

I have a long road trip tomorrow, and I would like the radio, so I am assuming I will have to disconnect that speaker so it doesn't scare the #$%^ out of me again when it goes wacky.
