Don't remember the exact total for 2008, but here's what I'm looking at for just this week:

1) Inspection II 60,000 mile service: $765
2) Front and rear brake pads and sensors: $680
3) Two ripped power steering hoses (steel-reinforced) + labor: $580
4) Two cracked thrust rod bushings and labor: $410
5) The nagging suspicion that somehow, some way, the stealer is ripping you a new a$$hole: Priceless...

Those are some hefty costs. Even if an independent garage cost less than dealer, that is significant!

I just got the (pre-owned) X5 and that is my biggest concern. I can do a lot of maintenance myself (and I'm starting at 35k miles) but if my repair costs got to 2-3k every year, I'd probably move on.

Bought it to drive, not sit in a repair shop all of the time. Had my '04 X5 4.4l a little more than a year w/38k mi, of which I have put on 14k. So far no problems.

OK, Park Ave service advisor cut me some slack, wound up paying $665 for the Insp II, plus free re-fill on the Nitrogen. Biggest part of the job was the brake pads + sensors($660...ouch). But at least the rotors were OK.
