Question Screen Display - Help from a Newbie!

We have a 2001 X5 which had a flat battery. After Jump starting it, the screen for the GPS/onboard computer isn't working. All the menu options still work, as well as the CD Player & Radio but obviously we can't see what we're doing!
It previously happened the same way when we first got the car a cuple of years ago, but we can't remember how we fixed it or which of our contacts told us how to fix it!
Can anybody help?

Thanks
