Need help with gauge ring install....

I'm trying to find someone in the Winston-Salem, NC area that would be willing to help me out with the gauge ring install. I don't have the rings yet but will purchase them asap. I'm confident in my abilities to do most mods, but given I've never worked on a gauge cluster before, I was hoping to find someone who has installed the rings[successfully ] on their X.

I'm willing to travel and of course a monetary payment is in order for the installer. Any takers?

Come to X5world fest, which is being held right there in the Carolinas in a few short weeks. JV, our very own "Lord of the Rings", has offered to conduct a clinic on how to do this mod to anyone that attends.

I can give you a list of tools you'll need and easy to follow instructions, or as Jeff stated, come to the X5World/X3World meet on 10/22 and I'll help you out in person.

It may seem like a daunting task, but seriously, taking the gauge cluster out and apart is simple.

It's a really easy mod. The only "specialize" tool you need is a T10 screwdriver used for electronics. You can buy them at Radio Shack, or many times they are included in tool sets. Otherwise all you need is a needlenose plier and a flathead screwdriver.

The instrument cluster comes out easily and if you are handy, it should not be a problem. Good luck.

As Autoxer said, the 2 screws which hold the gauge cluster into the dash are T-10 size. Flat head screwdriver to unock the 4 plastic tabs on the gauge housing and a pair of needlenose pliers to turn and unlock the 5 + tabs, then your gauge cluster comes apart.

Unfortunately it's parents weekend at my university during the weekend of the meet, and my parents are making the trip down from Jersey, so I will be spending the weekend with them in Winston-Salem going to our football game and all that stuff.

Ok, I`m all for it, just one last question. Would this invalidate my BMW warranty? I have done other mods, all of which can be removed but I wouldn`t want to have to remove the rings if I need to take the car in.

I had to take my new X5 in a couple days after installing the rings, and no one at the dealership said a word about it. I was a bit worried about it, since I was getting a "service engine" light on the dash (probably from something I did installing the rings ).

Alright so I guess there's no one in my area willing to help with the gauge ring install?
