So he says they are BMW original, but he doesn't have the part number(s). He also doesn't have the shift knob in black or the rear cupholder cover in black or know what those part numbers are. Anyone know where I can get the shift knob or rear cupholder cover in cosmos black? Or ideas on refinishing those myself?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Ask him for the part numbers of the items he does have and punch those into realoem or an etk and see what comes up. Usually the entire kit will be displayed. You might also want to try the ebay seller 'roveractive'. He carries stuff like this and I'm sure can get it. He is honest and reputable from eveything I've heard. Here you go:

Interior trim:

Rear cupholder:

Gearshift:

order those two parts from the dealer. they sell you the entire shift knob and not just the trim for about $80

if they ask for your vin maybe you could find a non-premium package X5 on autotrader before you call and give them that #

I wouldn't refinish these pieces yourself because they have a gloss finish with a very unique metallic depth.

Ok, I just "won" the Cosmos Black Nav trim kit on ebay and I ordered the shift knob and rear cupholder piece from the dealer. I'll have to take pics as I work on it. Exciting times!

My center console is sitting in my dining room right now It wasn't ungodly, but I wouldn't want to do it frequently. I may add a subwoofer with bass adjustment knob ... and I'm thinking the best place will likely be in the storage bin or armrest area, which means I'll be pulling the center console out again at some point (and running another cable under that evil molded rear carpet!). Luckily, my hand is healing nicely so I'll be ready

EDIT: Btw, is there any way I could add some pics to that article on removing the center console? I can take some as I'm putting things back together and it might help others like me who are more visual

I bet the admins would love you to update that article with pics. I was going to mount my bass knob in the console but changed my mind considering how much I like to adjust the bass on each track. Mounted mine here here so that its easily adjusted on the fly without opening anything.
