No kidding...summer tires: don't work well in cold temps, on slippery surfaces.
Go to your tire thread, see post 2 from X5rolls.

Buy a set of dedicated winter tires for your 18" wheels. Don't wring your hands
over brand; nearly any quality dedicated snow tire works very well, in my experience.

Slap them on and enjoy safer winter driving.
When spring hits NY, put your 19s back on.
Easy stuff.

Where have you been? Even the manufacturer suggests dedicated winter tires or all seasons. It's not worth the risk, especially having your kids in the car...look into dedicated winter tires with the M&S stamp.

There is a fine line between summer performance tires and winter/snow tires...two completely different compounds.

Been snowing here in England and to be honest i thought the were not that bad... They not amazing but they did the job and got me up a icy muddy lane most prob a 30% up hill climb full of pot holes.... In icey roads it a bit more tricky but that goes for most tyres surely. Out of a rating of 10 i would give them about 7 from my experience.

I think it's Caps Lock that makes it seem like you are screaming.

I had mine on for one weekend in snow and I didn't get to drive with them much but they weren't too bad. All the other x5's I've seen in my area all have Michelin Diamaris all year round. I think half the people don't even know that they are summer tires.
