30 mpg 4.4

Worked a long day today and decided to take it easy on the way home.

In fact, I decided to see what kind of mileage I could coax out of the X.

Over a 15 Mile section of 55MPH state road - with stop lights, I was able to get about 26.7 MPG @ 54MPH.

At 46MPH, I was able to get 29.7MPG. (This is as read from the computer.)

I was impressed that it would do that well.

I tried that once...eking out every ounce of mileage during a trip. It was very hard work! Frankly until gas hits $8 a gallon, I going to just drive it and be happy with my usual 14.9 mpg.

The best I've ever seen is about 22 mpg over flat ground, 70 mph, air off. My running average over 10K+ miles is 16.2 mpg.

yeah, I've seen 25+ WHILE IN MOTION, but most of us use actual mileage calculated after filling up the tank (miles/gallons=mpg) - only political spin doctors play with numbers your way

My average over 30,000 miles is about 16 mpg according to the computer.

While not great it is not bad considering I drive a fair amount in traffic.

What type of fuel are you using? City or highway driving?

My 2001 X5 4.4i sport has 104,000 miles and I get around 19.2mpg. Sometimes it dips down to 18.8mpg. About 75% of that is highway driving. I use Shell V-Power (93 octane). And I'm not that careful with accelerating!

For about a year, I was 80% city driving. I was getting around 14mpg.

Don't let the computer fool you. Try resetting your computer while you are going 50mph on the highway. MPG galore!

To find your actual mpg, do a full tank fill up and reset your trip meter. On your next fill up, divide your total trip miles by how many gallons it was for full tank.
