That is why I went for the 3.0 engine.

Now I am sure the 4.8 engine will be a blast to drive (haven't driven one yet... didn't want to spoil the fun for myself knowing I wasn't going to buy one anyway), and from feedback on this forum, it seems like anyone who owns it loves the drive... but if reliability and lower cost of repairs is important to you, you may want to consider the 3.0.
Something tells me the 3.0 just won't cut it ... better reliability or not. Oh, maybe because of the words he used ... S4, hustle, pass people with ease, M5, supercharged, quick enough ...

yeah, that is what I was thinking too.

I have one of (if not the) fastest production motorcycle in my garage (07 Kawi ZX14) , which I use to get my speed fix on... so for driving (with the wife and the baby in the car), 3.0 has MORE than enough power for my purposes.

You can override the automatic reset with the Intrax module. Click the link in my sig for more info.

Hey all, if he buys the 4.8is, its still the right choice, irrespective.
The 4.8is is damn reliable, just do all your servicing on or before service indicators come on.

P.S. Also keep her on full, she likes her drink, not saying she is guzzler, trust me you get much worse, RRS, Porsche CT, etc....

the 4.8is is faster than your S4 from a roll and much faster than an auto s4

a stock manual S4, best case scenario is doing 5.6 to 60 mph, which isn't going to happen every time, the automatic is more like 5.9-6.2 and I have raced a couple of S4s and had no trouble pulling on them, it's all about the gear ratios

I get a kick out of these threads: guy asks if 4.8 is good, fast, etc., and
is looking for reinforcement and even handed opins.

He gets some good posts and then, BAM!
The thread turns into an arm wrestle over quality, 0-60 times, 3.0
vs V8, and on and on...

Xs are great cars: handle very well, go fast, heavy but hide it, etc.
Go drive a couple at your local stlr, and bargain; they all have lots
full of these cars.

This thread topic sounds like that Old Spice commercial: "Is Old Spice Hair and Body Wash right for me ?"
