Front end shake (non braking)
The front tires are cupping, so I know something is off. I searched many threads but it seems that most front end shakes occur when braking. I've also noticed a very unusual vibration when the car is idle or in reverse. Please ask me any questions, I really need to get this fixed....I can ever seem to mod my car cause something is always wrong with it

does vibration originate in the steering? were the tires rotated?
(Trying to tell if it is in the wheels or alignment vs other mechanical.) |

You need a wheel balance or you have a bent wheel. If you have another set of wheels try swapping them out to see if the shake goes away.

The vibrating when it does occur comes up from the gas pedal and goes through the steering wheel. It feels like it starts in from the tires, but even when I brake it's not a smooth feeling. Really rough, I attributed that to the tires but now I'm not so sure. Also, I had used a fuel injector treatment twice (prestone). I'm not sure if that's what caused the vibrating, but wanted to throw that out there. I had brakes/rotors/CV boots changed 5K ago.

Any chance that running the 4.6 stag setup on my 4.4 cause problems?

1. Tirerack has a nice flowchart for diagnosing such problems, go through it. (I posted it in reply #15 on this thread)
2. Do not rotate tires, per BMW. (see attached note) 3. Go get your wheels and tires rebalanced. Make sure they user the Hunter road force measurement system (GSP9700) that BMW uses. (See attached SIB 360104) Go to the Hunter website and do a search of tire shops that use it. It's worth every penny and it will identify a bent wheel and save you any further costly repair. Plus while the car is up you and the tire guys can take a look at the suspension parts...pick their brains and see if they think anything is screwed up (control arm bushings, brake calipers, etc.) http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/OE...769T/index.htm http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/search/FindGSP9700.cfm 4. After that go get alignment done at the dealer. Also worth the money IMHO. Make sure they thoroughly look at your suspension before the alignment is done because if anything is worn or needs changing then your alignment will be pointless. Also find out how long they warranty the alignment for before you get it done. http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/OE...757T/index.htm 5. Post an update. BTW, I don't have any vibrations (front end shake) when braking and as far as I know it's not common (and DEFINITELY not normal!). What is a Prestone fuel injector treatment? This vibration is getting me nuts!!!
Friend, I have the same problem. It started as a vibration when stopped on a red light while pressing the brake pedal. It only happened on D and R, if you put in N it was just smooth.
I tried everything. Replacing motor mounts was the first, then camshaft sensor, plugs, filters... you name it. Today on the road it just got worse. It started shaking when accelerating from 80KM to 100KM and the vibration is now shaking the mirrors at idle. I've researched a lot about this "vibration" and couldn't find anything conclusive. It seams to be a BMW gremlin, as you can find it related to different BMW models. Now I'll check the front transmission (!!!???) If this work out I'll gladly post it! |

Have you checked the driveshaft? Sounds like your guibo needs replacing as it's causing excessive flexing of the driveshaft. It's not a gremlin. Item # 2.
