Hydro Steering Box?

I did search and found nothing similar.

I am having some stiffness in the steering specially when I first run the car in the morning. I feel like there is no power assist at all and I can even feel a click at certain points when I turn the steering wheel either left or right. Sometimes when I take a curve the steering stops turning at a certain point until i force it to pass it (hard forcing).

The strange thing, sometimes this problem disappears completely and the car drives normally. I checked the steering oil and it is fine. I took the car today to my mechanic and he said there is something wrong with the Hydaulic Steering Box and he will have to check it again tomorrow to decide if he can repair it or it will have to be replaced.

I checked realoem and found two types of Hydro Steering Box, one is normal and one is with "servotronic". How can I tell which one I have on my 02 4.4? (both are very expensive )

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you need a new steering rack. Not sure how you can easily identify the correct rack. Call up a couple local dealers and ask the parts guy to tell you which is the right one given your VIN. If they all give you the same part, you're golden.

I feel that both will fit ... if the servotronic was an option then they should both fit on the car ... will make sure tomorrow through the dealer.

I don't think servotronic is so simple and I wouldn't make any assumptions based off of realoem. Remember it's just a parts catalogue not a workshop manual. Call the dealer or better yet, take it for repair. Steering isn't something I would be willing to screw with...

Turned out to be the Hydro steering box with Servotronic!
It is faulty and needs replacement
Price at the dealer here is extremely high (around 3,000$)
I found it at getBMWparts.com for around 1,600$
ECS Tuning is much expensive

I have emailed them asking if it comes with the Torque Converter or not. Torque converter is another 200$ (part 7 on the above diagram)
