Hey ekvals,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Sounds like you're working through it. Good luck with your project.

For those of us that have yet to attempt the bake and open method can you tell us how long the headlights were in the oven and at what temperature. I remember reading that the oven should be at 200F and bake for 10 - 15 minutes. Is that what you did ??

Silicone based products from Bostik and in particular Sikaflex are well respected in the construction industry here in Australia. Has anybody used either of these products for resealing the headlights ?? If not what was used ??

Hi.

Yeah, im gonna get it fixed soon i hope.. You can imagin the look on my face when i got the headlight out of the oven.. He he.. Did'nt even smell burnt..

Frankly, i just f. upped.

The oven was set to 200f, but in order to get the headlight to fit, i removed the bars on the side that holds the baking plate.. Then i put the plate in the bottom of the oven and layed the headlight on top of this. Since my oven has heating from below as well, the plate which was metal on metal, got much warmer then supposed nad so on melted the headlight..

What we can learn from this is: If you are gonna bake your headlights, keep it in mid oven, and dont let it touch any metal which is in direct contact with the oven itself...

hope this made sense.. It's not always easy to explain unsual things in english.

Thanks for that. Your english is fine and that was a perfect explanation. Bake em in the middle, simple as that.

How's the painting coming along ??

So show us the pic. Sounds like they've put a coat of grey primer on. Good reason to get excited. Hope you sort the headlights quick so all can be finished around the same time.

I opened the driver side headlight today, and used a combination of heat gun and razor blade.. That worked really wel..

I left them on my bathroom floor to warm up a bit. Then i heated them a bit with the heat gun, not much though, and as i puled them apart i cut the glue with the razor. Simple and safe,..

I hope he (being from Norway) didnt bake it at 200C, because that's close to 400F ...

Headlights

You should try www.bildelsbasen.se and www.lagabasen.se , there are at least three sets of headlights. Not cheap, but since East European kroner (SEK) are on sale this days it's a reasonable price anyway. If you should be needing angel eyes I have a full set BMW originals including fiber cables ++ for sale.
