Does X5 Front Rotor Questions from Potential New X5 Owner

Hi Everyone!

I have decided to get a CPOed X5 for myself. For weeks I have struggled to decide between 3.0i and 4.4. Finally, I am leaning towards 4.4. I am a moderately aggressive driver so I guess good handling is helpful.

Anyway, I am looking at this 05 X5 4.4. I looked at the service records....the only work that has been on it is rotor replacement. Front rotors have been done 4 times so far ( 3 1/2 years) .. rear rotors have been replaced once( which seems normal),

Is this rather fast front rotor wear normal for 4.4 ? could it indicate more serious issues?

thanks and I plan to be here quite a bit. This site is very resourceful!

PS: I couldnt edit the title... "Doesnt" didnt need to be there ;0)

something is wrong, unless there are thousands of racing miles on those rotors. Being that is a cpo, it can't have high miles, but you didn't state mileage. Also, did they change the pads each time?

It cound be a combination of rotors that warp easily and a driver who stresses them.

My front left was warped with I got it, I just assumed the previous driver was hard on it. Since replacing mine, it is smooth...

... but that is a lot of replacements.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
I almost never see warped rotors on BMW's... I have a feeling that improperly balanced wheels and some slack in the thrust rod bushings gave a warped rotor feeling to an unsuspecting tech that kept putting rotors on it thinking they were warped. (just my guess, but the batteries are weak in the crystal ball today)

If it is just the problem with the rotors...i can live with it...probably will have to get maintenance package....

Would any serious issue cause warping pf the rotors.?

thanks

as weasal56 noted it could be unblanced wheels or other front end issues being misdiagnosed as warped rotors, were the rotors replaced at the same dealer or indy mech.you could have other issues as calipers not releasing fully but that would cause premature brake pad wear.if you really want the x get the maintenance package as you mentioned and see what happens, good luck

I say the previous driver drove like a mad mad...

Give me a brand new car, and I'll warp the rotors in a few hours... Not that hard to do.
