So that means either my water pump or the heater control valves is going out soon?

I will try to record the sound once I got a chance.

thanks.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
Not the actual water pump, just the "auxillery water pump" which is just for heater performance.

I finally got a chance to repo the sound and record it. Here it is.
http://www.zshare.net/audio/56008600be82c271/

but since I replaced my FSR, the sound is weaker but still from the same area. As you can hear, the sound is in pulse. I just want to know if something is going out soon.

Same problem here!

I have the same problem! a stragnge sounds from the exact the same place. It's stops when setting the eccc to the minimum. I must be the water pump or the valve.....!!

You can here the sound in the car....its quite loud...a humming noise!
It start after a short time the car is running..

What is most common...a water pump failure or the water valve from the heating...??

Thanks

Niels

Oi - I have the same issue. Would love to get some info on what needs to be replaced (just #1 & #13 from previous post?) and how difficult it would be on the DIY scale.

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
I just had my FSR inpected yesterday just to make sure it doesn't give me issues in the future. The SA said 05/06 E53's have the upgraded FSR's and shouldn't be an issue. FSR issues were are common to early X's and 5 series.

hum..... I doubt it. my Aug 04 build 4.4 has the new design FSR, shorter but more heat sink fins and plastic base. but it still die after 40K miles. I guess those 05/06 just still new.

actually the sound is not as loud as before I replace my FSR. before, the sound is loud enough to draw my attention and even driving in 30mph I can hear it. But now I have to pay attention to hear the sound and I can only hear it when the car is stop or very slow. for example, before I can record the sound in the car (but didn't get a chance), now I have to put my recorder in the engine bay with the engine off to record the sound. inside the car it is to low to record or my crappy cell recorder is not sensitive enough.

also before I replace my FSR, I can also hear a "Click" sound in every pulse and now the Clicking is gone.

I'd go spend $1.95 at autozone and get the mechanics stethoscope to listen to the individual components as the noise is happening. That is the easiest way to isolate the component. And as a DIY job, either one is easy. Just be sure to bleed the air pocket out of the system when refilling the coolant afterwards.

Thanks, I will do that when the sound happens again.
