Talking New X5 owner to the forum! (pics)

Hi all, my name is Jay. I've been lurking and reading for a while on bimmerforums. I heard about X5world from that site. Well, I finally saw the BMW that I had been wanting, so I pulled the trigger.

It's an '03 X5 4.6is Black/Black with the following:

Dinan S3 centrifugal supercharger system
Dinan strut bar
Dinan camber plates
Dinan pedals
Brembo 4 wheel brakes 15" and 14" (drilled... will have to swap for slotted in the future...)
BMW M3 Paddle shift steering wheel

I'm hyped... here are some "eh" pics, I'll do a photoshoot in a few weeks or so.

and here's a pic of the weekend car:

Looking forward to reading and learning more about X5 stuff.

Nice X..What mods do you have on the track car? I think I see a front mount intercooler. If it is, how much boost are you running?

chilliwilli, thanks for the welcome. I'll make sure to follow the factory/dinan service schedule.

hi primetime, the car is fairly built. Boost pressure is 17psi in the summer, 22psi in the winter, and 32 psi on c16 fuel. Any more, and the heads will lift causing coolant leaks and radiator ballooning.

mrbmwx5, while you're here a noob has a few questions.

- can a 4.8is radiator be fitted to a 4.6is?
- does the trans have a fluid cooler? If so, are there kits that will let you swap to a larger cooler and temp meter? If not, I might have to make my own.

I do need to order that Bentley manual.

A.#1 4.8 and 4.6is radiator are same item same part number so swapping is direct fit.
A.#2 I dont think the tranny have a fluid cooler
and dont think any aftermarket have a kit for it
so i quess you gonna custom make your own.

mrbmwx5, thanks for the tips.

- for some reason I had thought that I read that the 4.8 radiator had more coolant capacity or the fans pulled more air.

- for a trans cooler I would route it with a 90 off of the drain port -> s/s line -> T off for temp gauge -> t-stat relay controlled electric pump -> s/s line -> cooler -> s/s line -> fill port. Overkill even on hot summer days? Your thoughts?

Thanks for the welcome Dave, I will do my best to post results in the near future.
