Battery Dead, Locked out of Car.

X5 2003 4.4i owner. My battery is completely dead and I cannot get into my car. The keyless entry will not work, nor will putting the key into the key slot on the door. BMW suggested finding a way to get the hood open and then running some power to the battery via cables. Any suggestions on how to get the hood open? Any other ideas?

Are you in cold weather? Something may just be frozen stuck if the key doesnt work in the lock - otherwise, you may have some internal issues inside the lock/door.

The immediate answer to get in the car is to call AAA or similar service so they can open your car w/o damage.

Good luck!

Close, Orem City, Utah. We are having cold weather. I did look at some other forums on here that have somewhat answered my question though (should have looked before, my apologies). Thanks for your help!

Come on, it is not that hard.

There is a huge cable attached to the starter motor that goes directly to the battery. There are two small wires and one big one, you need the big one. This is accessible from below but you will get slightly (or maybe even quite) dirty from getting under and reaching in there. But this beats any other method by far in terms of time needed.

Attach a sturdy wire with a "crocodile clip" and then attach a charger. The negative lead can attach anywhere on the body or the motor.

Charging for 15 min is probably enough to get in to the car.

Good luck.

PS Check this link and you will see what I mean.
