Your battery need changing, it doesn't have enough charge for the ignition. just my 2 cents it happened to me on my 328i, light and all, but no start.

Classic dead battery. It should last more than three years, but it's probably been run down before and isn't holding a full charge. Chances are someone left the interior light on overnight, and if the battery is already hurting that will kill it by morning.

If it's a huge deal to you, get the dealer to replace the battery and come home and sing Kumbaya. No need to get worked up over a dead battery. Your X5 is fine.

RELAAAAX, FRANCIS!

Batterys go bad. That's life. If its a used car, it may have an old battery. I wouldnt blame the dealer or the car. If it falls within warranty, then good. If not, just buy one.

I agree w/diagnosis: dead battery.

They "sit" on the Stlr's lot for weeks/months with an occasional short drive and/or doors opening and closing.

Good luck on the "free" replacement: most Stlrs want about 250 for a new one;
Pep Boys, AutoZone, et al, have 'em for less than a hundred.
GL,md

PS: "CPO" means the Stlr had the car washed and waxed by the $8/hr cretins.
And, "Maybe" up on a lift for 10 mins.
