Help with spacers for 3.0
Hi.
Im thinking about adding some wheel spacer for my 3.0 without the wide type flares. Any idea about what size i should get..? Thinking about 20mm for the rear and 10 mmfor the front.. Could i go higher.? Or will it stick to far out..? Thanks.. |

My wife would say she's okay. You know, I never knew 87s came in that size until recently. Hmmm .. wonder what the offset is? I'll have to do some research ... |

Okay, not sure if those wheels are OEM or not but if you want to be positive double-check your offset. Also, are you sure they're 8" wide and not 8.5"?
You might have to pull one of your wheels and look for the ET stamp (example: ET45). I bet your offset is either 45 or 48. If that's the case here's how it would compare to regular 20" 87s with 45mm front & 30mm rear (based on your 18x8 having 45mm offset): Your front wheel is currently 19mm more retracted. Your rear wheel is currently 47mm more retracted. Obviously, even if you add 30mm spacers on the rear, they won't be as far out as seen on the 4.6/4.8. I have no idea what is the largest spacer available. Probably wanna go 20 - 30mm max though. For the fronts, I would not put too large a spacer. The spacer does change the geometry and add more stress to the wheel bearings. And since there's more going on up front than the rear, I'd maybe leave it alone or just use what you suggested: 10mm. Might want to do a search as I remember someone who had similar wheels who added 30mm spacers in the rear. Let me see if I can find the thread ... |

Just added spacers to my 3.0 X5 with stock 7.5 wheels. I added the H&R 25 mm spacer to the rear only. I am pretty pleased with the look. It kicks the rear tread out just about right. I did not add any spacers to the front because of the wheel bearing issue mentioned by ekvals. The back now looks just a hair wider than the front. So I think ekvals is right if you go with fronts add 5 or 10 mm. The nice thing about the 25 mm spacers is that they bolt to the hub separately with supplied bolts and then you use your wheel bolts to attach your wheels to the spacers.

I agree, its great that you bolt the spacer to the hub, and then the wheel to the spacer.
Do you have any pics of your install.? I would love to see how it looks.. Can't make up my mind about 25 or 30mm.. My rear tires wear out pretty quikly on the inside.. Guess this will get worse woth spacers.? When i asked the shop about it, they said its typical BMW.. But i guess something can be done if its excessive uneven tear.? |

30mm blir topp det! 60mm pa aksen..
I have 2x30mm at the rear. Looks great. However, I would not put spacers at the front. I tried it, and I got a lot of 'tracking'' (sporing)

Takker 993 turbo..
![]() Great to get feedback from someone with first hand experience. ![]() Does your tires wear a lot moreon the inside because of the spacers.? And when you tried spacers in the front, how many mm where they.? I think it will look a lot better with some spacers on, getting the tires further out. Artig med litt norsker på forumet.
