Excellent mod as it would change the exterior appearance big time at night when unlocking the X. I'd imagine the darker the setting the better the appearance & impact.

Excellent write up with easy to follow instructions with pics.

Does anybody know year models for puddle lights to mirror housings ?

Hey, since you don't have the puddle lights then Good mod! Personally I still think you should have just done a puddle light retrofit, but to each his own.

So I finally had the time, and added these in. Looks pretty good IMO, only thing different is I used LEDs from the local electronics store, which required a 680 ohm resistor. Also I had to trim a piece off of the dummy lock cylinders in order to get the LED to sit in place. I took the whole dummy cylinder out via the 4mm set screw which I got to thru that little black oval on the side of the door, instead of just prying at the black trim cover and with my luck probably snapping something, lol. Great DIY tho, Thanks!! I'm trying to think of cool new places to add LEDs now that won't rice it out. The options are unlimited I guess now that mrbmwX5 showed us how to hook them up. Thanks!

Here's a couple pics (from my phone, so they're a little pixelated, but you get the main idea.)
