Love me some new shoes.

Finally got the new summers on (well, all-seasons). The snows were wearing badly in the front (more on that in a bit) and were so far out of balance that driving was getting to be a pain. So today I had new tires (General Altimax HPs), front rotors, and ceramic pads installed. Much smoother and quieter ride now. I still need an alignment, but that's coming up this Friday. Until then I need to put as few miles on as possible.

I had trouble finding anyone but the dealer to do the alignment. Apparently there is some issue about getting the DSC to "re-learn" the new alignment. The place that did the tires and brakes basically said they couldn't do it, and a dedicated alignment place in town said they'd have to bring in a BMW tech from the local dealer. So I'm stuck having my dealer do it. Still, it's worth the $175 or so to get it done right, I guess.

The good news is that my dealer is going to come out and get my X5 on Friday and leave me a loaner. Then my nephew and I will return the loaner on Saturday and pick up the X5 and my recently purchased 2006 Z4 3.0si. Can't wait for that. Hope the weather holds.

I just had my 4.6is alignment done at a local tire shop. The tech did a great job but I have not heard of the relearning issue prior to your thread. Has anyone else heard of this?

I've had three alignments with my local Goodyear tire store. They've got the procedure for the X5. I've never had any problems with their alignments. $79.95 plus tax.
