just bought an x

I just purchased a 2004 x4 4.4 this week. Its my second bmw i had a 2000 323i that i modded lightly. I am very impressed with the x already but I have a few questions. I am looking to clear the front headlights and wondering what the largest size BMW OEM wheels for the x5 are. any info would be appreciated. I looked on jlevisw.com and bimmian.com and havent found cleared headlights.

I didn't know BMW made X4 back in 2004, what do they look like? But the largest OEM for the X5 is 21"

Congrats on the new ride!

:xoutpost:

1. Wheels: 21" OEM wheels are available but I would stick with 20" because of availability and cost concerns.

2. Headlights: To clear the corner on 04+ the practical way is to buy OEM Euro headlights (though expensive). You can open the HLs on 04+ but its VERY difficult and will involve a LOT of cutting. Once its open you still won't have clear corners but you can paint them. Also, there are no companies that make clear corners for 04+ headlights that I know of.

Good luck and post some pics!

They run about $1,000US per side don't they? Pricey but sexy, kinda like a high priced whore.

...and more expensive than fixing that dead pixel in your camera.

$500-$700 a pop doesn't seem totally unreasonable. Is that just a direct swap, pop the US versions out and pop the EURO versions in? Or is any modification required?

No mods but usually when you buy them they are just the housing - no bulbs, ballast, igniter, etc. You need to swap them from your HLs. Thats one of the reasons they're cheaper.

Word of caution. There are different Euro versions out there so make sure you know what you're getting. That way your HL internals will work with that Euro HL.

For example, stock on my 4.8 are ADAPTIVE bi-xenons. So, I bought the adaptive version. There is a non-adaptive version too.

Were did you guys come up with 21" as being largest OE BMW X5 rim? What wheel number is that I'd like to know. Oh and I wouldn't go using Twinspoppa's car for a template unless you have bags full of money all over the place. I think he's used a few bucks and a couple of hours into making that sucker one of the top 2 or 3 rides on this board.
