Need First Oil Change w/o Coverage - too much?

Hi Everyone,

Have an 04 that is about to hit 42k and needs an oil change. Dealer says 110, and if I wanted micro filter for another 116. Sounds CRAZY but at the same time, don't have anyone else I can trust a this point.

Thoughts? Also should I be getting ready for anything else at this point in time, I bought the car at 17k and I was lucky enough to get new brakes before the transaction from the owners BMW dealer in Long Island.

Thanks.

Either DIY, find an Indie or, have the dlr do the oil change...

That microfilter is a 10 second job; easy DIY if you feel it needs replacing.
There are two versions of the filter for sale, from memory; sounds like that
quote is offering the "better" filter, but at $116 it is really a rip, imo.

Brake fluid change if it's been 2-3 years, and maybe have your key "run"
to see what was done before you got it...all this kind of things to do can be
easily found using Search Tab.

$110 for an oil filter is pretty standard. I would skip the microfilter.

If you want to do it yourself, that is fine, there are DIY articles on the home page. If not, better to pay a dealer $110 than a Jiffy Lube or similar outlet half that for oil and a filter that may not meet BMW specs.

With the clearance on the X5, you don't even need to put the car on ramps to get under there. I'd just do it yourself with BMW Synthetic oil and a Mahle Filter. Mahle is the OEM for oil filters and Mann is the OEM for the air filters.
