I had an update to my 4.8is from the dealer and it made a diference but it seems that it reverts back to the old issue on occasion. So there is a transmission update that the dealer is aware of!

Got my 2004 4.4i updated about 2 weeks ago and the improvement is very noticeable. I should have done it a while ago!!

It's been a month of driving now with the new software and I continue to have the same, positive impression. No change (reversion) in transmission behavior. I have yet to feel the dreaded tranny slam despite multiple situations that would have CERTAINLY brought it on and it continues to accelerate smartly off-the-line. Very pleased to date.

It's been a few months since the update and things seem to have reverted back to before the update. Perhaps not as harsh but definately not as good as just after the update.

I think the adaptive part of the software gets reset to default values during the update. As you drive and the settings get adjusted you'll notice changes. Unfortunately it's for the worse.

Dang...hope that's not the case with mine. Hasn't reverted in one month and around a 1000 km (600 miles) of city driving.

Did you have tranny slam originally and is it back? That was the nasty one I don't want it back again....

Yes, it's slamming again, though not as hard.

Transmission Software update

Just got my 04 4.4i upgraded with a newer version of Tranny S/W. The invoice says

PROGRAMMING ERROR IN EGS
REPROGRAMMED EGS PER BULLETIN 240106
USING 25.02

I guess 25.02 is the latest version of the Tranny Software.

Yet to test it for a day or two before I can feel the difference.
