You need to change a setting on your ipod Touch, I think.

OK - I've gone through the ipod touch settings 3 times and I dont see anything for sending the audio somewhere other than the headphone jack - can someone give me some words of wisdom here?

Wish I could help, but I don't have a Touch. Try calling apple to ask them.

There are no settings. If you have the correct iPod Touch Dock to 3.5mm AUX Cable then it works out of the box.

Test it somewhere else. Plug that 3.5mm plug into another input. A friends car, anything that accepts that kind of output.
The iPod Touch Dock to 3.5mm is nothing more than an output cable. Whatever you plug it into should receive the
signal if the iPod touch is outputting a signal.

Make sure you have the volume on the touch turned up. ( Don't scoff. That's a common mistake)

If it doesn't work Call EAS and make sure you have the right cable.

Not sure if we are all on the same page here and talking about the same thing. Whether or not the touch has a setting, I simply do not know as I don't have one. I've heard people with the iphone discuss setting changes for video, maybe audio is the same, again I don't know.

The fact that you mention having the volume turned up makes me think you're talking about something else too, since the dock connector is a line level output and is independent of the volume setting on the device itself.

I assumed he got the right cable, if not, then yeah he should call EAS and at the very least call up an Apple store for some advice.

Lastly, since I just remembered, make sure to put your radio into AUX mode as it does not do it by itself.

i think what he is doing is docking it and also pluggin it via AUX... the Touch will choose to output via dock as it is the default. Basically wanting to charge and listen to audio at the same time i would just stick to DICE from jlevi for that.

I was plugging in an AUX cable to the headphone jack, which worked fine. Upon hearing that I could get better wuality through the docking connector, I purchased one from EAS, but I dont think this connector works with the new iphone and ipod touch - I plug it into the dock connector, and then plug the other end into the AUX in my X5, and no sounds is fed to the Aux - it actually plays on the touch's internal speaker, as if it doesn't think it's plugged into anything.

Shoot eas an e-mail to verify if their cable is compatible with the touch, it should be according to the manufacturers web site. Do you have a different ipod to test out the cable to make sure it's okay?

I've verified that the typical dock connector will NOT work with the Ipod Touch gen 2 or likely the newest iphone. This includes the EAS connector listed earlier in this thread - it doesn't work.

There is some kind of additional resistor required to make the newer devices work. I ended up finding a product that does work - it's called PocketDock and you can get it from SendStation. Works fine with my Ipod Touch 2g and my aux input.
