What is the brand name of the X5 navigation?

Could someone please tell me who manufactures the nav system for the X5 (4.6).

Also has anyone had a situation where the left knob does not turn the screen or radio on or off? My nav works (can't turn it off) but my stereo won't turn on.

Thanks

Look in the nav forum. I just asked a similar question regarding that nav drive. Is that what you are talking about? or are you referring to the display unit?

Weasel will become famous soon enough
Does the knob feel loose or funny at all? On some there is a nut that you can get to by pulling the knob off that can be tightned with a 13mm or 1/2" socket. On some models it is internal and can't be fixed though. But either way, it is easy to pull the knob and look.

Oh come on, it doesn't suck. Keep in mind it was designed quite a while ago and for auto integration. Tech has moved forward quite a bit since then. The CCC nav systems are a huge improvement. And the upcoming CIC systems are apparently going to be MUCH better still; certainly much faster since they will no longer rely on a DVD drive's speed but be hard drive based.

LOL, I love BMWs as much as anyone on here (maybe more than most since I refuse to drive anything else) but hey, I know BMW Nav sucks and I can say it with confidence. Take for example Lexus navigation from a comparable year car and you will see that BMW has been LIGHT years behind in this area. Sorry. But would I buy a Lexus b/c it has better navigation? Hell no. I buy my bimmers for the drive!

See since I've never been in a Lexus, I am happily unaware at what I might be missing!

No JT, the it's the X5 itself thats secretly manufactured by a company called Sucks INC. $22,000 in warranty repairs later... I still find myself around a g-note a month in shop bills. Unbelievable.

TO X5 Meister... I am refering to the nav unit itself. Like screen etc. I could've sworn there are some Delco parts on the X5? Maybe that's one of them? I need the brand so that the stereo shop can figure out if they can get it repaired at the factory.

To Weasel, Yes the knob is kinda funky. I will check that out. Thank you.

The MKIV brain/drive is manufactured by Phillips.

BTW, you must have a lemon. Thats a lot of warranty work.
