Seatbelt sensor

Do others have issues with the passengers side seat being too sensitive? I can't even place 2 dvd's on the seat w/out it going off! Pretty ridiculous. I searched and one person suggested a magnet and another just said keep the seat belt on. The magnet did not work and I'd rather not keep the seat belt on at all times. Can anyone else provide assistance?

Did you have any luck dealing with this issue? I notice the same thing with my 2005 4.4i. If I place my Blackberry on the passenger seat, I will occasionally set off the seatbelt warning buzzer. This sensor seems overly sensitive and it's really annoying!

nope. as you can see, no one replied to this thread.

i just end up leaving the seatbelt on the passenger side on if the sensor does go off.

i am taking my car in for service soon and i am going to bring this to their attention. hopefully they can make an adjustment. i will keep you posted if they can correct the issue.

I see that no one has replied to this but curious if anything was ever figured out. I am now having this problem, which I never had before, since taking my X5 into service on Tuesday morning to have my ashtray assembly replaced. Not I don't have to set anything in the seat and it goes off. Also, the airbag light is now coming on and staying on. Taking it in tomorrow morning so I will post if I have any luck.

Odds are the seat occupancy sensor needs to be replaced. When it is properly operating the OC3 mat can determine the size and weight of the person there to know of what level to deploy airbags if any at all, and can determine when it's a childs seat as well. If it is going off with little to no weight it probably has microcracks in the circuits, which happens over the years...

Cool to know. If I put my laptop bag there, it goes off... but a bottle of water or so, no alarm. If it is going off with only a couple of dvds even, something must be wrong.

Seat Belt chimes are stupid. We might as well all be wearing high-visibility jackets while driving. Yes, one should always fasten your seat belt while the vehicle is in motion, but it should not be something that cannot be turned off, as is the case for North American models.

I won't be smug about it, but Down Under our X's don't come with what would be an annoying seatbelt ding ding ding. Just a simple dash display reminder when you set off on your journey, sorry.
This has nothing to do with defective seat sensors, which of course can happen anywhere. GL to homeboogie getting it right.

The most annoying thing is that the chime has been driving me nuts for three days and today it just stopped doing it. Figures seeing as I am taking it to the dealership in the morning.
