Thinking of trading the X5 for M5

Considering trading my 2002 4.4i in for M5. Just wondering if anyone here had an E39 M5 currently or in the past. I would like to know how the M5 compares to the X5 in interior room, maintenence, and reliability. I love my X5 but I've only put 2500mi on it in six months so i figure i can afford a higher performance vehicle. Thanks for any info.

You can't compare the 2. Apples to oranges. Our M5 is a blast to drive. It handles very well but the power is the reason to buy the M. The X5 has more room but the M handles 4 people very easily with it getting tight fitting 3 in the rear seat. I find it doesn't do well in the space department. The trunk is large enough but the subs with the premium sound hang down pretty far thus limiting the carrying capacity. Repairs tend to be more frequent and can start adding up quickly. Choose your M5 wisely and be sure to have a ppi done. I would stay with an '02 or '03. The M5 in a word...intoxicating. Good Luck!

I priced brake parts today for M5. With discount pads/rotors all way around $1100 It seems like everything double compare to my 540 or X5. I do work on cars myself but damn M5 stuff expensive...

If cost isn't an issue, keep the X5 and buy an M5.

I just got an M6 and the thing is AMAZING.

I have a 08 E90 M3, awesome. Think repairs and maintenance on a X is high try an out of warrantee E39. Yowzer!!!! I'm sure Weasel can confirm this. You can get an 08 E90 M3 with .9% financing and under 50G. New M3 eats up a E39 all day and it is a sedan and roomy.
My 2 cents
