What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Installing the right resistor in the factory harness will trick the LCM into thinking the stock bulb is installed.

I cannot believe this is such a complex process. Surely there's a simple way to connect the angel eyes as DRL's? I wonder why the boffins at BMW didn't set this up originally? I had been considering purchasing bright white LED's for the OEM angel eyes, then tackling this process, but am now somewhat reluctant due to the different opinions and processes in this thread. For someone with only basic wiring experience, can anyone please explain from start to finish what this would entail? TIA

Resistors

Ok, can somebody send me in right direction to get resistor installed? Does it get wired inline of stock plug? Does it get connected at where stock plug ends ? Im not sure I understand where resistor needs to be installed .when I install relay harness (same harness i have in my E46) , it is essentially doing away with the OEM angel eye connector. What would happen if i incorporated (connected stock wiring into new harness +/- wiring ) ??

Is the original post in that thread the best/ideal way to do this mod? This is something I'd like to tackle on my '06 4.4i and I did a similar set-up with my E38 (just with the Umnitza AE kit), but I thought I'd ask before getting into it.

Thanks!

Almost 10 years later and this post still proving to be incredibly valuable!

I studied this entire thread (and several others) for weeks before pulling the trigger on this project. It sounded much more difficult...so I was a bit nervous.

But I completed this today on my new-to-me 06 4.8is and was pleasantly surprised at how quick and simple it turned out to be!

Turned off my DRLs with BMW Scanner 1.4.0 (PA Soft). Upgraded my AE bulbs to LEDs. Tapped the white AE wire on each bulb right at the plug. Ran a 16g wire from each of those taps to the ECU in the engine bay. Tapped the other end of both into the red/white switched power wire pictured in post #1. This was the "alternate/best method" as recommended also in post #1. Buttoned everything back up and it all worked like a champ!

Ok, adding from what I wrote on another thread, if on the facelifted models, the DRL is the high beam bulb at lower voltage, can we tap into that wire?

Then wouldn't the AEs only burn while you had the high beams on? Is that what you would want?

No, meaning if the DRL is the high beam light, just tap into that power supply and remove the bulb from the high beam socket. Then use an app to code out voltage monitoring on the high beam since 04-06 have bi-xenons anyways.

So basically the reflector bowl becomes useless at this point.

I'll have to really take a look how the lights work once I get the car. I was assuming that the AE's lit up as DRLs just like my E70 did.

Yea you should probably wait till you get it in front of you. I thought my DRLs were low power high beams = but they are not. Appears to be a totally separate bulb. If your setup is the same then that wouldn't work.

Knowing this now, I'm wondering if I couldn't of just tapped that wire into my AEs instead and accomplished the same with less wiring.

If you say that its a separate bulb within the high beam reflector bowl and I think you could definitely tap that line to run the AE. The technical drawing on realoem.com isn't clear enough for me to see.

I read through this thread and 1 don't like running wires like that as it looks messy and 2 I would hate tapping into anything in the ECU, I'm sure it's safe and all, it's more of an OCD thing I have LOL
