RMak, I saw this at the NY Auto Show and I thought of your avatar immediately.

Do you remember where you went on Merrick Blvd?

My avatar is a Philippines Jeepney. The Jeepney's in the Philippines are like tanks... kind of like the X5.

Anyway, my mechanic (Kenny) had just recently moved to Jamaica Ave now. The Merrick Blvd facility was just too expensive to maintain. He moved into a smaller facility. I don't have the exact address and his number on hand.. but I can PM it to you tomorrow. I have 2 coworkers who also have X5's and we all go to his shop.

Ok thanks. Actually you should post the info here if the guy really is good and has reasonable prices.

RMak good write up. Hey can you recommend me to that mechanic of yours? -=) Im really hesitant about the people who works on my cars. If this guy knows his stuff about X5s, I would love him to work on my car.

Thanks... PM sent

His shop is not as clean and sophisticated as some high end shops, but he knows his stuff and gives you a good deal. I'll actually be at the shop this Saturday having my CV boots and axles replaced.

remember, you are having your axles replaced. the cv boots are already on there. I hope this guy isnt gonna try to act like he's doing extra work. I wonder if you dont say anything and keep saying "boots and axles replaced" will he try to charge you extra. Its a good test of whether a mechanic is honest or not.

When I called him, I asked him a quote on just having the CV outer boots replaced. He then said to me it's recommended to have the axles replaced too. He quoted me for $300 dollars for axles and cv boots. I did a search on this site and most posters recommend having the axles changed with the boots cause it's only a few dollars more. Pretty much the same statement he reiterated to me what most posters are saying on this site. Him saying to have the axles replaced with the boots, he probably knows the axles come with the boots. I'm not worried at all... this is my 3rd visit to him. The first week I got my X5, Kenny was the one who inspected it for me to see if there where any problems. He gave the X5 a clean bill of health...

I'll let you know the details when the job is done.

Lance... got the X5 back. Dropped it off by 8am was done by 1:30pm. $300 dollars as he said... though cuz I paid by debit/credit card, he had to charge me for the tax (next time will bring cash). So... $325 out the door. Have new inner, outer boots and new axles. Also feels like the X5 steers smoother and easier. Cuz this is a common wear and tear with the X5 i'll give Kenny's address and phone number to anyone interested.
