Remember I still need to put everything back together, but yes I got all the hoses in the kit I bought and will replace them. The one hose going from the bottom of the separator valve to the top front of cylinder head was plugged pretty solid, as was the valve. I worked pretty much straight on it from 10:30am to 6:30pm until the intake was off. If I had done it before it would have gone much faster but I took some breaks before going back to figure out what to rip out next. Make sure you have a selection of torx bits before you start. I pulled the whole fuel rail off and left the injectors plugged into the manifold and kind of pushed it aside, as it's still attached to the main line in the rear. Ensure the rubber o-ring stays on top of the injectors or find them and put them back on. The procedure on E46 site described how to disconnect the metal clips and remove the electrical part and then the clips and bolts for the injectors.

update - during reassembly I ended up removing the injectors from the intake and sticking them up into the fuel rail and set it in as a unit. It takes quite a bit of wiggling, gentle tapping etc to get the injectors to seat all the way down. Also the metal clips for the electrical connectors... you can put them all on the connectors and then easily push all of them onto the contacts and you will hear them click in place.
Also... make sure the one end of the hose for the fuel evap (purge) valve is connected to the underside of the throttle body housing BEFORE you mount the intake.. unfortunately I had to find out the hard way. |

I must say though after having done the job once... it's not too bad because you know exactly what needs to come off. After everything was back together I had to start all over again at 7:30pm to connect that one purge valve line underneath the intake... took me 5-hours total for disassembly & reassembly. Still is a poor design in my opinion for accessibility and unit failure. I found the starter buried under there too, so it appears the intake will need to come off if that fails.

Pickncrew, is the fuel evap valve the one in the middle of you 1st engine pic above with the plastic hose and rubber hose as a connector? The reason I ask is cuz I just did my OSV replacement and it wont idle now and I think I put that connection back in the wrong place cuz it's a blind connection when working from above

Got it sorted. The FTV fitting was behind and to the right of the OSV, but that didn't turn out to be my problem. The reason my x3 wouldn't idle was due to the ICV not being fully seated...
